A Full 2019 for Hemlock Films, And An Exciting 2020 Around The Corner

The past year has zipped by! That’s what happens when you premiere two national projects at the same time; Rise Above: WASP produced for the Commemorative Air Force and Space Chase USA produced for WUCF PBS Orlando.

Rise Above: WASP

Our exciting, multi-year production of Rise Above: WASP was finally was completed. The film tells the story of the Women Airforce Service Pilots of WWII, told in an immersive 180 degree theater that travels the country.

Over Memorial Day weekend, we were able to screen a fine cut of the film for the WASP at their annual reunion in Sweetwater, TX. The WASP in attendance loved the film, making the all the hard work worth it. Our clients, the Commemorative Air Force, held a special screening premiere at the biggest aviation event in the world; AirVenture 2019 in Oshkosh, WI. Pilots, filmmakers, actors and aviation VIPs enjoyed the multiple screenings, with smiles and cheers after (and sometimes during) each showing. While it was wonderful to show the film to the aviation community, our greatest satisfaction came in a thank you note from WASP Nell Bright, “You did a great job of authentically telling our story.” Nothing beats hearing something like that.

Space Chase USA

Because creating a one-of-a-kind film about the WASP wasn’t enough, we also created a new documentary about Cocoa Beach and the Apollo program titled Space Chase USA. This one-hour film was created in partnership with WUCF Orlando, and released nationwide through American Public Television. Along with breaking some distribution records of half a million PBS households, we also earned an Emmy Award for Best Historical Documentary this month. It was a nice wrap out to our 2019 productions!

Just to fill the days....

In case the other projects were not enough, we also enjoyed providing services again this year for Amazon, American Greetings, the Cleveland Browns, National Aviation Hall of Fame, the NBA, Nestle, and Women in Aviation International. Both of us also spent time working on movies here in Cleveland, as well as out of town (Cherry, Untitled Fred Hampton Film, I’m Your Woman). It has been a busy year!

It was our pleasure to work with Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C) again this year. Adam had the opportunity to teach during their On-Set Intensive Training Workshop. We are pleased to see many of our students now out in the world, working on professional sets.

Here comes 2020!

After a nice holiday rest, we’ll be hitting the ground running again in 2020. Another round of teaching at Tri-C will be first up. Then we will be releasing one of the largest projects we have ever created. We will be finally debuting our television show The Restorers - Season 1 on broadcast television in the US starting in February.

There are a few other projects in the works, including return trips to Oshkosh & Sweetwater, but you’ll just have to stay tuned to find out what’s next! And always looking forward to more...

Happy Holidays, and we hope you’ll have a great New Year into the roaring ’20s!

Kara and Adam
